As the skeptical mate of a proud new VW Sand Rail owner, and as the one who is supportive when something goes wrong on nearly every excursion, and because I got tired of worrying and inwardly griping, I instead took action and found a book with some answers to my prayers. My guy had two other books, including the famous Idiot's guide from the '60s, but this one is his fallback for most repairs. Haynes guides have great photographs to show what they are talking about, which makes it easier for him. I like the fact that it covers every possible year of engines, because we won't know exactly what year this engine was made unless it gets stripped down to the heads... and KNOCK ON SANDRAIL METAL hopefully it'll never get to that point and we'll never really have to know, thanks to the thorough fix-it info found here.
Very good, great source of information and tech. Have bought three fix it books for VW and all have their pros and cons. I do suggest this book if you own a VW Beetle. This covers (with photos) just about every aspect of repair.
This book comes in handy in vw restorations and repairs . Good book, pics are black and white only. Together with Bentley's and Muir's a good companion.
This book covers VW Bug repairs from the 60s to the 70s. If you own a VW Bug from that period you will find a great deal of relevant information on how to fix your Bug yourself. Complete with easy explanations and clear photographs showing you every step, this is a gem of a book for do-it-your selfers.There are other books available, some excellent, some confusing and not very good. But the Haynes VW Repair Manual is one of the best. I would still recommend that you have this book on hand as well as one or two other VW Bug repair manuals. This way you can cope with every repair problem from every angle.
I borrowed a copy of this Haynes manual with the same Title, Haynes Book Number, and ISBN number. I liked it so I decided to buy a copy for myself. When I received this book, I found it was different because it did not contain most of exploded views as the borrowed copy and there were about 30 - 40 less pages. My guess is that Haynes wanted to reduce their publishing cost. The seller met all of my expections.
Very comprehensive manual-not pretty mind you; it's printed inexpensively and the print is small for us old folks but this book is very detailed-I place it somewhere between John Muir's book and the Bentley manual which is probably the best book for VW repair. Frankly though, between the Muir book (which is a MUST have) and this one, it's all you really need.
Always a good reference
Buy all brands of repair manuals for your vehicle, there may be a description in one or photo that clears up confusion in the other. Very useful if you do any of your own maintenance and minor, medium and even major repairs. Have bought Haynes manuals for every vehicle I've owned, but get the others too. They will end up supplementing each other equally! For VW be sure and get How To Keep Your Volkswagen Alive as well.
